For the 19th time, Catlin Gabel has been awarded the Oregon Athletic Coaches Association (OACA) 3A All Sport Champion Award. The honor is given for overall sports accomplishment—the combined effort of all Catlin Gabel teams and individuals.
Out of 35 schools in the 3A division, Catlin Gabel has been recognized with this top honor almost every year for the past two decades. Despite the cancellation of spring sports this year, the award recognizes excellence across many sports at Catlin Gabel, including successful seasons in soccer, basketball, cross country, volleyball, and swimming.
The OACA also recognized three Catlin Gabel coach-educators as Coach of the Year. The award is especially meaningful for professional educator-coaches because each honoree is selected by their peer coaches across the state.
Head Swim Coach Spencer Crum was named 4A-1A Coach of the Year. He was recognized not only for the Catlin Girls Varsity Swim team State Championship win, but for his impactful and positive work with athletes throughout the season.
Varsity Girls Soccer Coach Chris Dorough was named the 3A-1A Coach of the Year for the second time. Chris led his team to a State Championship in November 2019, and the award recognizes this accomplishment as well his efforts to instill character and commitment in his athletes.
Varsity Boys Soccer Coach Peter Shulman was named the 3A-1A Coach of the Year for the third year. Peter’s team also won the State Championship in November 2019, and he was recognized for his team’s perfect 19-0 season, and for teaching character and integrity through sport.
