Soccer - Varsity Girls vs. Scappoose

Event Type: Regular

Date: September 9, 2017

Event Recap:

24 hours after a hard-fought game against Yamhill-Carlton/ Gaston, Catlin took the field to play another very competitive Scappoose team. This team was solid all over, with their defensive line proving to be a very tough group to get past. It was back and forth all game, with both teams getting almost an equal amount of shots off, and the game ultimately coming down to who won more 50-50 balls and who possessed the ball better.

The sole goal of the game came with one minute remaining in the first half. Catlin was awarded a free-kick outside of the 18 which was taken by sophomore Annika Holliday. Holliday took an incredible shot over the opponent's wall, whose arc looked as though it was going into the goal but ultimately hit the crossbar; this ball was rebounded off the bar to senior Allie Dunnaville who headed the ball into the goal. This was the game winning goal as the score stayed 1-0 for the remainder of the game. The preseason rivalry between Scappoose and Catlin Gabel looks as though it will continue.
