Soccer - Varsity Girls vs. Cascade Christian

Event Type: Regular

Date: August 25, 2017

Event Recap:
Cascade Christian: On Friday afternoon the Catlin Gabel Eagles played their first game of the 2017 season against the Cascade Christian Challengers. It was a great match that resulted in the first win of 2017 for the Eagles. The match was a nail-biter; the Eagles came out unprepared to compete with the energy of our opponent at the beginning which resulted in Cascade Christian scoring the first goal of the match after only four minutes of play. While Catlin came back with a fierce vengeance, outshooting our opponent 28-8, the Challengers held us silent until only twelve minutes remained in the game. At 68 minutes of play, Sophie Wand, freshman, took a beautiful corner kick that landed in Allie Dunnaville’s lane right in front of the goal who put the ball in the back of the net to tie the game up 1-1. The Eagles, reenergized, scored again two minutes later with a ball from sophomore Annika Holliday to freshman Sophie Adler who finished in beautiful form. Of note was a spectacular performance by Sophie Wand in her first high school soccer match. She played a crucial part in our midfield transition and took nine exceptional shots to challenge the Challengers’ keeper. Another stellar performance came from sophomore Ann Louise Naito who, before being rushed to the hospital with a dislocated jaw, put in an incredible effort and hustle on our forward line, creating many opportunities for the Eagles. Junior middle Emma Sadle was our rock in midfield, creating so many opportunities for us on attack as well as being a force-to-be-reckoned-with defensively. All-in-all the game was very competitive and a great start to the 2017 Catlin Gabel Women’s Varsity Soccer season.
