Global Education

Catlin Gabel's global education initiative seeks to engage and challenge all members of our community to become active global citizens. The school achieves its mission by providing international and cross-cultural opportunities and experiences to students, faculty and families, beginning in the earliest grades. Our aim is to develop students' cultural competence – the necessary cultural, social, and academic skills to effectively address the challenges of the future. We envision our students being global leaders who understand the nuances of global issues, meet needs in appropriate cultural ways, and create positive and sustainable change, both internationally and locally.

The school's goal is to make it possible for each student to participate in at least one international trip during their Middle School and Upper School years.

  • Global trips: Where are we going in 2018-19? We're excited to have four US international trips and three MS trips lined up. Detailed information about each of these trips is available in the menu on the left. You can also find an overview of the application process on the Global Trips Logistics page and an archive of past global trips to the left.
  • New for 2018-19 - Alumni Trips! Catlin Gabel School is excited to announce the launch of our first Alumni Global Education Trip to Scotland, led by Upper School teachers Bob Sauer and Kathy Sloan. This trip is open to all alumni and family members over the age of 18. This inaugural trip offers an opportunity to experience Scotland well off the tourist track and right on fascinating paths and bikeways along the coast and in the Highlands, the birthplace of modern geology. The two-week adventure begins and ends in Glasgow (June 23- July 7). Space is limited. Trip cost: $2,200 without airfare per person. Click here for more details, to sign up for more information, and to offer ideas for future alumni global trip experiences.
  • International students: We won't have any new international students joining us in 2018-19, but this is just a one-year exception. Check back in the spring for news on 19-20.
