Middle School

Welcome to the Middle School!

Visitors to the Middle School will immediately encounter signs of the joy, excitement, energy, and curiosity that characterize our students and school. They will see students laughing, playing, and learning alongside their peers and teachers. They will also see students making things, exploring passions, practicing skills, and taking risks with the support of friends and staff who know them deeply. These are all indications that middle school students find here what they want most, a community that encourages them to find their voices and build their capacity for making an impact on the world.

Our emphasis on relationships gives students a sense of belonging during these important, transitional years. More than just experts in their subject areas, our teachers are also experts in our students. Knowing every student’s story, including their interests, worries, and aspirations, allows us to help them recognize their strengths, build their confidence, and feel supported even when they stumble, stretch, and grow.

From 6th through 8th grade, students encounter an increasingly challenging academic program which invites them to develop skill and content mastery as well as habits of independence and organization. It also encourages students to explore real-world issues experientially by asking questions, identifying opportunities, and solving problems creatively based on the input of others. Experiences like these give students ample opportunities to stretch their thinking, practice empathy, and learn with purpose.

Taken as a whole, our goal is to partner with students and families in nurturing independent, self-reliant, empathetic, and curious learners who know how to access their resources. We are proud of this work and invite you to see it for yourself. Current families are always welcome, as are prospective families who would like to get to know who we are. Please explore our Middle School web pages to learn about our program, and please reach out to any of us if you have questions.
