A competition recap by Mock Trial Advisor Eli Coon:

“On Saturday, March 2, 37 Catlin Gabel students arrived bright and early at the Washington County Courthouse in Hillsboro to compete at the Mock Trial Washington County Regional Competition. Due to tournament changes, this was the largest and most competitive regional in Washington County history. With 20 registered teams, only four could advance to the State competition.

Catlin Gabel's three teams all performed incredibly. Despite facing the tournament's strongest teams, including those from Jesuit, Village Home, Southridge, and Sunset, our witnesses testified with gusto, our lawyers kept opposing witnesses in check, and our openers and closers presented powerful, cohesive arguments that consistently swayed their jurors. During each trial, one student from each team is given the "MVP" award for that round. The following Catlin Gabel students earned these honors: Lauren Selden (twice), Avi Gupta, Will Leonard, Jane Madden, Catie Macauley, Tulip Larson, Sophia Meneakis, and Sarah Robertson.

At the end of the day, the Catlin Gabel Blue Team won one of the four bids to the State Competition. The Blue Team members include Riya Sivakumar, Lauren Selden, Avi Gupta, Marisa Natarajan, Chloe Snider, Angie Jiang, Britt Masback, Kean Spencer, Eamon Walsh, Abigail Halperin, and Tanner Hillison. They will compete against the best teams in Oregon on March 15-16 at the Mark O. Hatfield Courthouse in Downtown Portland, fighting for a spot at Nationals. All are welcome to come and support them.”
