Catlin Gabel Middle School Mathletes had a great day at the December 15 practice Mathcounts tournament, where they competed as individuals and in teams that mixed students from Oregon Episcopal School, Arbor School, and Catlin Gabel. Six of our Middle School students participated, and three placed in the top ten as individual competitors.

The tournament was sponsored by Oregon Episcopal School.

Six Catlin Gabel students participated:

Nathan Chen
Emily Zhang
Cynthia Yang
Erin Chow
Kevin Ziehl
Isabella Ho

Three Catlin Gabel Mathletes placed in the top ten as individual competitors (with scores from Sprint and Target rounds):
First place - Cynthia Yang
Second place - Isabella Ho
Third place - Emily Zhang

Teams were created by mixing students from all three schools, and the winning team score included Catlin Gabel’s Erin Chow.

The tournament included a countdown round in which three Catlin Gabel students made the final round: Cynthia Yang, Emily Zhang, and Nathan Chen. Cynthia came very close to winning, ultimately placing second in this round.
