Dr. Barbara Ostos becomes new CG Assistant Head of School
Posted 04/17/2018 03:00PM

Catlin Gabel announced this week that Dr. Barbara Ostos will serve as our new Assistant Head of School. Barbara assumes her new role at the start of the 2018-19 academic year.

Barbara is in her seventh year as the Head of Middle School at Catlin Gabel; prior to that she was Dean of Students and a middle and upper school teacher at the Francis Parker School in San Diego, CA.

In the last seven years, she has demonstrated strong leadership skills, creative problem-solving, and a keen analytic approach to opportunities and challenges. This includes leading our diversity and inclusion efforts (before Jasmine Love joined us as Director of Equity and Inclusion), playing a leadership role in our strategic planning process, collaborating on redesign of our professional learning program, and working with colleagues across divisions on the school schedule and math and science curriculum. Barbara has overseen our Global Education program, partnered on senior administrator searches, and served on numerous board committees. She has helped to further the Middle School advisory and Life Skills programs, learning services, and parent programs.

Barbara brings a focus on continuous improvement, a deep commitment to our progressive mission and vision, and a tireless work ethic to this role. She earned an Ed.D. in educational leadership at the University of California, San Diego, an M.A. in nonprofit leadership and management at the University of San Diego, and an A.B. in government from Harvard University.

Barbara’s focus in the next three months will be on the continued success of our middle school students and teachers and laying the groundwork for the 2018-19 school year.
