The Catlin Gabel Upper School Robotics team's Community Engineering students have won the first round of the Lexus EcoChallenge and a $10,000 for their WashPod invention. WashPod provides mobile off-the-grid laundry and shower facilities for the previously houseless in the new Portland pod communities.
The students involved have all volunteered to have their prize money go back into the project. The funds will allow them to equip a trailer with a washer, dryer, generator, solar power, and shower.
This team won the same contest last year for their JuiceBox invention that provided power and light for pod houses.
This will be the third straight year Catlin Gabel InvenTeams/Community Engineering students have won the Lexus EcoChallenge round one, and the fifth straight year they have won a $10,000 prize for their work.
