Athletic Blog #4

There was only a week between cheering on our basketball teams in the warmth of the gym, to the snow on the ground and the start of another spring sports season. The boys’ basketball team made a statement in the Lewis and Clark League with a convincing semi-final win over Horizon Christian, punching their ticket to the league championship game. The game showcased great grit, team play, and a dunk by Sophomore Jonah Zeller as the exclamation point. We were participants in the league championship game at Wilson High School where the Eagles ultimately fell to the eventual state champions De La Salle Knights. The boys’ team went on to play Pleasant Hill in the first round of State. It was a great back and forth contest, but we fell short, losing 46-52.

Our Middle School Boys Blue team also secured a spot in the league championship game defeating West Hills Christian 56-45. The win set up a championship game with Riverdale in which the boys’ team lost a heartbreaker 37-40…

Athletic Blog #3

As the winter season has fully set in, the joys of another successful championship Fall can still be felt. We would like to extend a huge congratulations to all the Fall sports teams that competed, it was the first time in history that we had all of our Fall sports competing at the state level. Volleyball won the Lewis and Clark League and hosted the first round of state and played a tough Creswell team.

The Boys’ Soccer team won the State Championships beating OES 1-0 in an amazing game that showcased grit, toughness, determination, and a will to win. The Girls’ soccer team finished second in state with a hard-fought game against OES, falling 0-1. The Cross-Country team got a thrilling 1st place finish for the girls, and a 4th place finish for the boys. The winning did not stop at the Upper School, Middle School boys’ soccer took home the championship trophy in an epic match that went into penalty kicks, while our volleyball team took second in league. …

Homecoming

As the lights turned off on the Davis-Gant field, the energy of the evening could still be felt. Eagle fans young and old came to cheer on the boys’ and girls’ soccer teams in their homecoming match against Oregon Episcopal School. The girls’ team walked away with a 3-0 victory, avenging their loss from the state championship game last season. The boys’ team ended in a draw after an exciting and thrilling finish that left fans and players wanting more. The whole evening embodied what Catlin Gabel Athletics is all about, tough competition, good sportsmanship, growth of players and the team as a whole, and ultimately an opportunity for the Catlin community to come together and celebrate our student-athletes. The success of the evening could not have been possible with the help from countless volunteers, our spirit group, facilities and grounds, alumni relations, and numerous others. Thank you everyone for contributing and making this such a successful …

The Role of the Crowd in Athletics

As an athlete nothing gets your adrenaline going more than the opportunity to compete in front of your home crowd. Our Girls Volleyball team was down 0-2 to rival OES when the roar of the crowd spurred them to a come from behind win.
