Dorothy Johnson Moorhouse ‘54 peacefully passed away at age 78 on February 15, 2015, with her three daughters by her side. Known to friends and family as Dottie, she was born May 17, 1936, in Portland to Ernest E. Johnson and Edith Menefee Johnson, and studied at Colorado College.
Samuel Southwell Whittemore Jr. passed away peacefully on Friday, February 6, 2015, at his home. Born August 8, 1932, to Estelle Pickrell and Samuel Southwell Whittemore, Sam grew up in Spokane, attending Wilson Grade School and Lewis and Clark High School.
Gretchen Miller Kafoury passed away March 13, 2015. She was born June 23, 1942 in Walla Walla, WA, graduated in music from Whitman College in 1963, and received a masters in public administration from Portland State University in 2008.
Jack E. Slingerland passed away peacefully in his home on May 1, 2015, after a prolonged illness. Jack is survived by his wife of 47 years, Penny Slingerland, two sons, and three grandsons. Both Jack and Penny taught mathematics at Catlin Gabel in the 1960s.
Robert James (Bob) Murphy passed away peacefully at his home on January 17, 2015, with his loving wife, Nancy McKimens, by his side.
Jean Glazer passed away on March 3, 2015. Born in February 1920 in Skamokawa, WA, Jean grew up in Portland where her parents, Arthur Clarence Kendall and Althea Bailey Kendall, owned a succession of small dairies, eventually selling to Carnation.
William Coit, M.D., passed away February 25, 2015, at the age of 60, surrounded by family in his Portland home. Known as Billy to his friends and family, he was born April 28, 1954, and spent the majority of his childhood in Ogden, UT, before moving to Portland.
Donald M. Kerr ‘64 passed away on February 4, 2015. Founder of the High Desert Museum, Donald was a self-proclaimed “desert rat,” passionate about the flora and fauna of Central Oregon.
Merriman Holland Holtz, Jr. passed away February 27, 2015. His family called him “a provider, a thinker and a builder.”
Jane Rosenfeld Kendall ‘33 passed away May 1, 2015, at age 99. Born April 20, 1916, she was the oldest child of Dr. James and Gladys Lang Rosenfeld.
Forrest E. Bump, M.D., 94, a longtime resident of the Forest Grove community, died April 27, 2015. His wife, Rosemary Joubert Bump, died less than a month later, on May 9, 2015.
Therese “Terri” Mersereau (née Spencer) died peacefully in her sleep Sunday, February 1, 2015, at Maryville Nursing Home. She was 87 years old. Terri was well known for her musical skill, still playing even after moving to the nursing home.

Melba Arlene (Haugen) Roth passed away peacefully on Friday, May 1, 2015, with her family at her side. Born November 24, 1932, to Ole and Angeline Haugen, Melba attended Vernon grade school and Jefferson High School. In 1952, Melba married Reuben Roth.
Mary Ellen Vranizan passed away peacefully in West Linn, Oregon, at the age of 78 on February 18, 2015. Born June 18, 1936, to John M. and Lillian Clark, she grew up in Portland, attending Laurelhurst Grade School and Washington High School.
Martha Patterson Morse ‘36 (Cady School) died peacefully on February 18, 2015, at Blue Ridge Hospice in Winchester, VA, at the age of 98. She was born in Portland on November 16, 1916, to Stella Love Patterson and Frederick James Patterson, and grew up in Eastmoreland.
Howard Jefferson Bell passed away on March 2, 2015, at the age of 104. He was born November 25, 1910, in Portland, to Chriss A. Bell and Charlotte Bennett Bell, who were married on the front porch of the Gearhart family home in 1904.
Ann H. Neidecker ‘45 passed away at age 87 on April 21, 2015. Born on October 3, 1928, in Newport, Ann was the daughter of Winifred Mackay Hutchinson and William Hutchinson of Portland.
Michael Gold died peacefully on April 20, 2015, at age 74, of kidney cancer, at his home in the Cedar Mill area of Portland. Born January 19, 1941 to Rose (Zweig) Gold and Benjamin David Gold in Paterson, NJ, he graduated from Rutgers University, received his Ph.D.
