LOWER SCHOOL ADMISSION PROCESS
We are delighted you are interested in applying to the Lower School at Catlin Gabel, which includes students in grades 1-5.
The admission process is designed to help us get to know each other. We encourage you to read through these instructions carefully and contact the admission office any time if you have questions. Please create an account in Orcas Mosaic, our admission management system. This will allow us to stay in touch with you about important admission events and deadlines. You will be able to schedule a tour, RSVP for an event, and apply to Catlin Gabel through your account. After you create an account, be sure to click on "Explore Process and Calendar" and designate Catlin Gabel in the Schools section of the system.
Schedule a Parent Tour & Conversation
We encourage you to schedule your Parent Tour & Conversation, a required step in the admission process, in the fall. These small group parent-only tours are available September 2013–January 2014. In addition to a campus tour, which will include brief observations of classes in session, parents will have the opportunity to learn about the school and the admission process from an admission officer. You can schedule a tour through your Orcas Mosaic account.
We ask that your Parent Tour & Conversation be attended by adults only to minimize any disruption to our current students as we move around in their learning spaces.

- A $75 non-refundable application fee ($50 if applying by December 16, 2013)
- Student Visit
Lower School visit day for ALL applicants: Friday, January 31, 2014.
Student visits are required for every applicant. This two to three-hour sampling of a school day provides an opportunity for applicants and teachers to get to know each other. The visit day for all Lower School applicants is January 31, a day when current Catlin Gabel Lower School students are not in school. All prospective students who have met the application requirements by the January 10th deadline will be formally invited via email to participate. The admission office will be in touch after the January 10th application deadline with more information about the student visit day.
When to Apply
Lower School reduced-fee Deadline: December 16, 2013.
Regular Deadline: January 10, 2014.
The reduced-fee deadline is designed for families who are ready to submit their application materials before the holiday break. There is no advantage to applying early in terms of receiving an admission decision earlier. It is not an "early decision" deadline similar to college admissions. All admission decisions are rendered at the same time by the same admission committee. The two application deadlines simply provide families with options and assist the admission staff with spreading out the application review process.
The final deadline for submitting your application materials is January 10, 2014. School records and the teacher evaluations do not need to be received by Catlin Gabel in order for you to finalize and submit your portion of the application, but ALL materials must be received by the admission office by this date.
All admission decisions will be distributed via email on March 7, 2014. Early application does not affect the timing of decisions.
