Blythe Butler
Co-Director of College Counseling

Prior to coming to Catlin Gabel in 2010, Blythe was the director of college counseling at St. Mary’s Academy in Portland. She also worked for 10 years in the Lewis & Clark College admissions office as the associate dean of admissions, where she read thousands of applications, coordinated the college’s electronic recruitment efforts, and visited high schools from Idaho to Connecticut. She has served on the executive board of the Pacific Northwest Association of College Admissions Counseling, the steering committee of the Pacific Northwest Colleges Consortium, and the professional development committee of the National Association of College Admissions Counseling. Blythe received her bachelor’s degree from Willamette University and earned her MA in nonfiction writing from Portland State University.
Bill Ouellette
Co-Director of College Counseling

Bill moved to Portland and started working at Catlin Gabel in the winter of 2016 after serving for 11 years as a class dean, 8 years as a college counselor, and 2 years as an English teacher at Punahou School in Honolulu, HI. Bill began his career in secondary education teaching English and Theatre at Thornton Academy, a comprehensive high school in southern Maine. Throughout his career, Bill has actively worked in school change initiatives and advocated for learning different students. He has an undergraduate degree in English from Bowdoin College and Master of Arts in Teaching English from The University of Chicago.
Mira Om
College Counseling Administrative Assistant

Mira started at Catlin Gabel in 2008 as secretary in the Head’s office and now supports the college counseling office. She provides administrative and clerical support to the department, in serving the needs of the Upper School students and their families. Prior to Catlin Gabel, she was employer relations assistant for the University of Oregon Career Center in Portland. Mira has a BBA degree in Marketing from the University of Georgia.
Maureen Reed
English and American Studies Teacher, Writing Coach

Maureen Reed has taught writing to high school, college, and graduate students for over twenty years, the last two of them at Catlin Gabel. She has extensive experience at working with students on application essays and enjoys this work because of the opportunities the process creates for building self-awareness and setting goals. She held a Fulbright Scholarship in Germany in 2004-2005, and, before coming to teach at Catlin, taught writing courses and served as a fellowships advisor at Lewis & Clark College. Maureen has a B.A. in English and Art History from Rice University and earned M.A. and Ph.D degrees in American Studies from the University of Texas at Austin.
