Natural Gas
Goal:
- The long-term goal is to use renewable forms of energy and eliminate the use of fossil fuels.
- The short-term objective is to reduce consumption and make the most efficient use of energy purchased.
Status:
The campus trend for natural gas provided by NW Natural has been up and down over the past 10 years and has been moving toward less use.
- Natural gas consumption for 2009-10 was the lowest in 12 years and 27% below the peak year of 2002-03. Therms used were at the lowest level since 1998-99 even though the campus had grown 16%.
- Consumption rose 3.31% in 2010-11 compared to 2009-10 but remained 25% below the 2002-03 peak.
- Gas use year to date is up compared to last year at this time.
