Sources: Biomass - Coal - Hydro - Natural Gas - Wind

Goal:

  • The long-term goal is to use renewable forms of electrical energy and eliminate use of fossil fuels to generate electricity.
  • The short-term objective is to reduce consumption by making the most efficient use of electrical energy.

Art Barn Status

The Art Barn electrical service is separate from the main campus and uses 100% Green Source renewable electricity. Green Source provides electricity generated by 85% new wind and 15% new biomass. For details see the Green Source photo in the gallery below or select the link to Green Power.

Campus Status

Campus electrical distribution is linked to Portland General Electric's regional network, metered through a primary meter and monitored with a program called E-Manager. The typical electricity supply from Portland General Electric is 4% renewable, 51% fossil fuel, 42% hydro, and 3% nuclear. Portland General Electric is connected to the Western Grid.

The campus trend is toward less use. 2010-11 represents the lowest consumption since 1996-97 - even though campus buildings have grown 16% since that year. Last year consumption was 20% below campus peak use, which occurred in 2003-04.

  • Electricity use for the 2011-12 school year is trending up 1.0% compared to the same period last year.
  • Electricity use last week [#28 - 1/1 to 1/7]: down 16% compared to the same week last year.
  • PGE rate increase: 5.5% on 1/1/2011. 2.6% less use [88 KWH/day] will offset the rate increase.
