Catlin Gabel Asks Oregonians To Donate Gently-Loved Treasures

58th Annual Rummage Sale Scheduled for</ br>October 31 to November 3, 2002.

Portland, Ore. - July 30, 2002 - Catlin Gabel, an independent, coeducational day school dedicated to excellence in education, asks Oregonians far and wide to dig through closets, attics, basements and garages to find and donate gently-loved treasures, collectibles, home furnishings and souvenirs to the Catlin Gabel Rummage Sale. All proceeds from the annual rummage sale, scheduled to take place at the Expo Center from October 31 to November 3, 2002, will go toward student financial aid.

For 57 years, the Catlin Gabel School annual rummage sale has delighted and surprised Oregonians of all ages with the sheer volume, quantity, quality and variety of items available. With this years Rummage Sale only three months away, Catlin Gabel students, parents, faculty and staff have been hard at work in the Rummage sorting center on campus.

Some donations already received for this years Rummage Sale include:

  • A Honda Civic (1991);
  • A John Deere riding mower;
  • Doll collections;
  • Antique kitchenware;
  • A Lennox china set;
  • Antique toys; and
  • Exquisite Asian antiquities.

Notable highlights from previous Catlin Gabel Rummage Sales:

  • Number of people who browse, tinker, shop or buy over the course of the sale: 11,000+
  • Total number of hours 42 year-round volunteers spent sorting rummage last year: 3,500
  • Number of 45-foot trailer filled last year: 15
  • Number of non-profit organizations invited to take items after the sale: 30
  • Football fields that could be covered end-to-end by the rummage for sale: 3
  • Number of volunteer meals served during the set-up for the sale: 500
