Catlin Gabel names new director of major gifts

Portland, OR, June 15, 2005--Miranda Wellman, former director of development and interim co-executive director of Raphael House of Portland, is Catlin Gabel School’s new director of major gifts. Wellman, a 1991 Catlin Gabel graduate, will be responsible for securing major gifts to the school and directing the planned giving program.

“We are pleased to welcome Miranda back to the Catlin Gabel campus,” said head of school Lark Palma. “She has always been deeply connected to the school community, and her experience and successes at Raphael House and Scripps College will add depth and strength to the development office’s fundraising efforts.”

As director of development at Raphael House, a nonprofit that serves victims of domestic violence, Wellman doubled the amount of major gifts in one year and secured new grants and community partnerships. Before returning to Portland, Wellman worked as prospect research and solicitation manager during a $100 million capital campaign at Scripps College, in Claremont, California, where she had earlier graduated with a BA in economics and international relations. After graduation from Scripps, she worked for three years in San Francisco in corporate finance.
