Athletics Leadership Council

This seminar helps develop successful student-athlete leaders. Our hope is that the athletes who come into our program will become better people and better leaders by the time they leave Catlin Gabel. We explore the responsibilities associated with good leadership. We talk about the commitment required and how players, coaches, and fans can tell if a captain is a reluctant or motivated leader. We teach students how to control what is controllable in tough situations and how to manage the team when everything seems to be going wrong.

A sports psychologist meets with our students to teach about how to develop a sports mindset game plan. We take the Meyers Briggs personality test to determine personality types and talk about how knowing the results can help students become better leaders. Finally, we cover how to be articulate, compelling, dynamic leader who others want to follow. Our hope is that our students will use their leadership skills as they pursue athletics, and also to make a real difference outside of sports.
