Athletics Program Mission
Catlin Gabel’s athletics program mission is to encourage and empower students to develop excellence in their athletic, leadership, sportsmanship, character, and interpersonal skills. Catlin Gabel encourages a highly competitive attitude within the athletic program and takes great pride in winning; however, the school does not condone “winning at all cost.” We strive to foster a positive attitude and healthy lifestyle in a setting that contributes to a sense of campus community.
We have a no-cut policy to encourage students to try a sport for the first time without any pressure. We have JV and JV2 teams for athletes with progressing skills. Every athlete will see playing time at this level as long as they are committed to games and practices on a regular basis.
Catlin Gabel also competes at the varsity level with a goal of making it to the state playoffs. Playing time and team selection are not guaranteed at this more competitive level
The Middle School athletics program gives students the opportunity to participate on Catlin Gabel teams even if they have never participated in team sports before. Students may choose one sport each season; everyone gets to play. Fall sports include soccer and cross-country, and girls volleyball. In winter, we offer basketball. The spring sport is track and field.
The Upper School athletics program gives students the opportunity to participate on teams, as individuals, and in other group activities. Students choose their sports each season. Fall sports include soccer, cross-country, and girls volleyball. In winter, we have swim, basketball, and ski teams. Spring sports include baseball, tennis, golf, and track and field.
