The counseling program in the Lower School is dedicated to providing critical social and emotional learning opportunities. Our goal is for children to be self-aware and resilient, and to have empathy for others. We teach children about building healthy relationships and how to resolve conflicts. You will find our counselor working one-on-one with students, in the classroom with whole and small groups, and in consultation with teachers and parents. Our counselor also plays alongside students at recess observing and coaching social interactions.
One of the central philosophies at Catlin Gabel is respect for the diversity within our community, which includes learning styles. Our learning specialist consults with parents, teachers, and with the students themselves to provide resources, interventions, and strategies to ensure that unique learning needs are met. Our goal is to empower students to gain insights into their learning differences and leverage their strengths as they navigate their challenges. All students can learn, and our learning specialist helps students figure out what works best for them.
