Jan. 21: Second Annual Catlin Gabel Chess Festival

Hosted by the Catlin Gabel Chess Club


When: Saturday, January 21, 8:15-8:45 a.m. check-in, play starts at 9 a.m.

Where: Catlin Gabel School: 8825 SW Barnes Rd, Portland, OR

What: A scholastic chess tournament for all skill levels to help promote chess in the Portland area. This event is sponsored by the Catlin Gabel Chess Club. Pizza, snacks, and drinks will be available for purchase.


Cost:

Early bird registration (online before Jan. 10): $20

Normal entry fee (48 hours before event or earlier): $25

Door entry fee: $30

Family discount: $5 off each additional sibling registration – refunded tournament day

Sections:

Novice – U800

Intermediate – 800-1100

Advanced – 1100-1400

Open -- 1400+

All sections are OSCF rated.

Within each section, players will be divided into smaller groups based on rating.


Time Control:

G/60 d5 for Open Section (3 rounds) - Awards

G/45 d5 for Advanced Section (4 rounds) – Awards at 4 p.m.

G/35 for Intermediate and Novice Section (5 rounds) – Awards at 3:30 p.m.


Prizes:

Trophies and/or medals will be awarded to 1st and 2nd place in all sections. Guaranteed cash prizes for the Open Section. All participants will receive a prize.
