Five distinct work groups have been formed to address foundational aspects of the Catlin Gabel Strategic Planning process:
• Who We Are: Identity and Strengths
• Education Innovations
• External Factors: Economic and Competition
• Current Strategic Priorities: Visible, Hidden and Opportunities
• Portrait of a Student
Each work group is chaired by members of the Administrative Team, who lead teams of 8-10 parents, teachers, staff, alumni and students. These teams are meeting regularly to talk about what their topic means for our collective vision for the future. Though difficult, they strive to identify strategic themes and issues to consider, and resist the urge to suggest solutions at this point.
The week of October 12th was a key week for the work groups, with two opportunities to involve the greater Catlin Gabel community. On October 14th, the PFA shared their session with the work groups. Parents were introduced to these topics, and spent an hour with the one that spoke to them most. These discussions were thoughtful and heartfelt, and added a great deal of information for all five teams. On October 16th, all employees spent the morning of their professional development day with the work groups, rotating to various topics and again having hour long conversations that the work groups used to further the themes they are focused on.
All in all, it was a very valuable week and the work groups are now using what they heard to move forward to a check in with the Strategic Planning Steering Committee on October 29th.
