Winter along the Crooked River
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to scale the beautiful rock faces of Central Oregon? Have you ever wondered what the high desert looks like in the winter? Come join the outdoor program for a weekend of rock climbing at Smith Rock State Park, and you can find out. No climbing experience is necessary.
The plan is to head down there on Saturday morning on the big yellow school bus, arriving about 11:20 a.m. We'll grab harnesses, shoes, and helmets (provided upon request) and make the short walk to the rock. Students with experience will have a wide choice of routes on which to try their hand. Students with little or no experience will get a day of personalized instruction in a small group on Saturday. On Sunday everyone will mix it up into various groups and find their favorite place to climb.
Saturday night we will cook a big meal and sleep indoors in the house of an outdoor program assistant leader in Bend.
The trip is open to Upper School students. Students participating in the winter PE rock climbing course can earn hours toward their credit on this trip.
The cost of the trip is $50, or $35 if you are participating in the winter PE rock climbing course. Financial aid is available, and the form is attached.
