Winter at the Oregon Coast

Head out to the Oregon coast to hike through old-growth forest, catch some of the most breath-taking sunsets (and storms!) in the world, hunt for seashells and beach treasures, and "camp" in a cozy yurt with your middle school classmates!

We will begin our adventure Saturday morning and drive west through the picturesque Coast Mountain Range. We'll stretch our legs with an exploratory hike along the beach at Hug Point, venturing into coastal caves and admiring the impressive rock formations. Then we'll travel south to Nehalem Bay State Park where we will set up camp in our yurt and cook a delicious dinner. In the evening, we'll enjoy games, music, crafts, and stories, and in the morning we'll gorge on a hot breakfast before heading out to the end of Nehalem Point, binoculars in hand, watching for whales and other wildlife. Time permitting, we may try our hand at hiking up the beautiful Neakhanie Mountain before loading up the bus for the drive back to school.  We'll arrive back at Catlin on Sunday afternoon, tired and happy!

All middle school students are invited!  If you are interested, please contact David Zonana (zonanad@catlin.edu) to sign up!
