McKenzie River Backpacking And Rafting
The McKenzie, by Foot and Float!
September 11-12, 2010
The McKenzie River is one of the most beautiful stretches of water in the state of Oregon and there are only two good ways to experience it--on foot and by boat. We're doing both, Outdoor Program style.
We'll wake up early on Saturday morning and load into a bus for a drive through Eugene and up the McKenzie river. We'll don our backpacks and take off down the McKenzie River trail, stopping in the evening for a night out under the stars. On Sunday morning, we'll wake up, eat breakfast, and meet up with our rafting guides for an exciting and fun-filled day of rafting down this gorgeous waterway. We'll alternate between water-fights and rapids, soaking in the sun during one of the last weekends before the wet season descends.
This is a perfect weekend getaway. Surrounded by friends and scenery, you'll barely remember that school has begun!
During our day on the river, students will learn the basics of guiding a raft through whitewater, focusing on teamwork, communication, decision making, and fun. At camp we’ll take turns cooking for the group, with lots of time to relax and explore. Students should be in good health and comfortable around water. No previous experience is necessary
The cost of this trip is $80. The trip is open to all Upper School Students. You can sign up by sending an email to Chris Potts at pottsc@Catlin.edu
