June 22-26: Steens Mountain Backpacking Spectacular
Oregon's spectacular Steens Mountain Wilderness Area will be the location of this highly anticipated trip. Students will wander through the unforgettable backcountry, deep gorges and rugged peaks of this 9100 foot high mountain massif. Legends surround this area, entire books have been written on it. Students will discover hidden lakes and streams, abandoned homesteads, and wander cross country through meadows blanketed in wildflowers and surrouned by quaking aspen.
We will leave Portland on Monday June 22 and drive through Bend and Burns to a camp high on the slopes of Steens Mountain. From here we will backpack on trails and cross country through this incredible landscape. Students will prepare meals as a group and camp out under skies filled with more stars than they will EVER see again. The group will return to Portland on Friday June 26th in the evening.
While no backpacking experience is necessary, participants should be in good physical condition.
The trip is open to students ages 14-18.
The cost for the trip is $195 for the five days.
