June 22-26: Bicycling the Gulf Islands of British Columbia
Join us for an incredible five-day bicycle trek in the Canadian Gulf Islands, an extension of Washington State’s San Juan archipelago. We'll head north on a Monday, taking the ferry across to our first island. Each day we'll explore by bike, sometimes taking another ferry to reach another island. There will be hidden coves, sandy beaches and mossy forests to explore, with wildlife and swimming holes awaiting around the next bend. Rides will be moderately difficult—ranging from 12 to 25 miles each day with some hills--but basic fitness and enthusiasm should see you through. At night we will cook dinner and camp under the stars. We plan to visit Mayne, Salt Spring, Galiano and Pender Islands. We may even see orcas or sea lions while riding the ferry between islands!
This trip is open to students age 14-18 in good physical condition. Extensive bicycling experience is not necessary, but students should be comfortable riding on road shoulders. Students need to provide their own bicycle; either a road bike or mountain bike is fine.
Cost is $325. The trip is led by Catlin's Len Carr and John Mayer. Please contact Aiyana Hart-McArthur to sign up: email@example.com
