June 18-19: 8th Grade Attempt to Climb Mount St. Helens
Join us for what's becoming a Catlin tradition--Middle School graduates joining the Outdoor Program for a trip to climb Mt. St. Helens.
Before this climb we'll prepare physically, mentally, and logistically, via pre-trip meetings and a conditioning hike.
There is no experience necessary, and you do not need to be an athlete to complete this climb. You do need to be in good physical condition and willing to work hard in a group setting.
We'll spend Thursday doing "snow school," learning snow travel and safety techniques. We'll enjoy the rest of the day in the mountains and get to bed early so we are rested for our summit attempt.
On Friday, we'll rise early and begin our hike toward the summit. We'll travel as a team and take regular breaks to take in the spectacular scenery. If conditions permit, we'll gain 4500 feet in elevation in about 5 miles and enjoy some time on the summit before returning home.
The cost of this trip, including the day hike, is $100.
