July 25-27: Whitewater Kayaking Course
If you know you love whitewater, this is the course for you! We'll spend three days learning how to whitewater kayak from the masters at Wet Planet Whitewater. From equipment selection to Eskimo rolls to reading the current, you'll gain skills needed to navigate your own boat safely and gracefully downstream. We'll get practice on land, in the pool, on a lake and in gentle current before progressing to full-on rapids. By the time we get to the waves, you'll be ready.
Wet Planet offers some of the best kayak instruction in the Northwest. All instructors are certified by the American Canoe Association. For more information on the course, visit Wet Planet's website.
Your group will meet in Portland Saturday morning and drive out to Husum, Washington, in the gorgeous White Salmon Valley. You will work on your kayaking skills for the majority of each day, returning to your campsite under towering firs each evening. Your group will cook dinner together and spend the evening relaxing with a frisbee, card games or just quiet time by the river. There may even be an opportuntity to walk to nearby waterfalls, swimming holes or ice caves.
Cost is $315, which includes transportation from Portland, all food, kayaking and safety equipment and camping. The course is open to students age 15-18 who are comfortable around water. To sign up send an email to Aiyana Hart-McArthur at firstname.lastname@example.org.
