Dear families,
Typically, there are several faculty changes that I let families know about in the spring after we have hired the majority of our teachers for the next year. At this point, however, I wanted you to hear about an important change for next year in the upper school counseling office well in advance. As some of you may know, George Thompson has decided to retire after this year. Here is part of an announcement he sent to all the students this week:
‘I've waited to announce my retirement officially until we knew who my replacement would be, and now I can bring you all the happy news that next fall, Kate Grant will be your new counselor. Kate has had the same background and training I have had in psychology, and her credentials and qualifications are very impressive. What matters even more to you, though, is that she is Kate! She knows well our school, our faculty, and our parents. Above all, she knows most of you, and her happy spirit and strong judgment are familiar to anyone who knows her. Kate will be a wonderful counselor, and I'm delighted she has agreed to be here for you all next year.
I've loved being your counselor during these last fifteen years, and of course, leaving a job one has loved is never easy. Fortunately for me, you still have me around until June, and I’ll want to make the most of it. I’ll look forward to hearing from you!’
While no one can replace George, we are looking forward to working with Kate in this new role. Kate’s training in counseling includes a master’s degree from Harvard University in counseling and psychology as well as time working as a clinician at Georgetown University.
Moving forward we have begun searching for a new fulltime college counselor for September to replace Kate, and we will keep everyone informed about that progress in the months to come. As always, if you have any questions for me, please feel free to get in touch.
George, we will miss you, but we have several months to celebrate all that you’ve done for our community!
With kind regards,
Michael
Uncluttering your e-mail inbox
We are introducing a new newsletter that will replace most e-mails the school sends in between editions of the “Biweekly Bulletin.” Look for the “News You Can Use” on alternate Fridays. These publications are your best sources for information about required meetings, upcoming events, and school activities!

Laptop Program Survey
Parent input essential
Please visit the following link to complete our third laptop program survey. The results are essential to help us better understand the use of laptops in the program and make improvements in the future. It would be ideal if all upper school families submitted their feedback. We have sent similar surveys to upper school students and teachers. Many thanks for your time and for sharing your perspectives.

Survey on Gym and Athletic Program
Parents invited to contribute feedback as part of student-initiated survey
A message from Sabin, Class of 2011
If you could please take a few minutes today to fill out this survey, your thoughts would be extremely helpful. As part of my Agents of Change project focused on the gym facilities for the entire Catlin Gabel Community, I have spoken with members of the Catlin Gabel Athletics program as well as Catlin financial fundraisers. This census will allow us to better understand the students’, faculty’s and parents’ ideas about the current gym and athletic program.
Thanks
