Does Your Child Need a Guest for Grandparents/Special Friends Day?!
If your child doesn’t have a guest for our Tues. Nov. 24 Grandparents and Special Friends Day please let Vicki know. Lower School Athletics!
Interested and willing to coach a basketball team this season? No previous experience is really needed. And this could be a shared position. Catlin Gabel Lower School has a longstanding tradition and history of coed 3rd & 4th grade basketball at Portland's Hillside Center at Culpepper Terrace - site of the original Lower School! This fun, non competitive league plays Friday afternoon or evening games. Hillside will also provide us with a practice site, likely on Tuesday's after school.
Again, no experience is required and we will support you as best we can. Last year we had two teams and one highlight was our mini game on campus at the halftime of one of the varsity basketball games. For further information please contact Len Carr in Athletics.
Please make your pledge or gift to the Annual Fund now, and we will stop calling you! Thank you for saving hours of volunteer time!
Sincerely,
The Annual Fund Parent Committee
Coin Lunch Bunch
The next Coin Lunch Bunch will be Thursday, Nov. 19. We usually ask that students not bring money to school as a rule but the exception is for Coin Lunch Bunch. Students can bring money to trade for state quarters or presidential dollar coins. If your child is eager to share a special coin collection, Vicki is happy to hold it in her office for safety for the day.
Coin Collecting
Dear Parents – Many of you may be aware that the U.S. Mint started a new series of Presidential Dollar coins two years ago. The first coin depicts George Washington, our first president, and the collection will go on for several years, with a coin minted for each U.S. President in the order they served our country. These dollar coins are larger than a quarter and are gold in color. Four presidential coins will be minted each year until all of the presidents have been shown – which will take about ten years. The eighth U.S. President, Van Buren, was released last week. Students can now trade for most of the Presidential Dollars as I have them right here at school (and most of them are “uncirculated” which means they’ve never been touched!) Learn more about coin collecting and how to order your own coin folders!
Rummage Sale Retires in Style
Dear Catlin Gabel families,
The 65th and final Rummage Sale was an AMAZING success thanks to energetic volunteers and loyal customers. We generated $274,000 in sales, just $1,000 shy of last year's total.
The Catlin Gabel community spirit is epic. We do great things together — we always have and we always will.
Thank you very much!
So, what’s next?
Do you have ideas about what Catlin Gabel might do to recreate the wonderful sense of community and commitment to service we have experienced through Rummage? Share your after-Rummage Sale ideas with us on the After Rummage Forum or send your ideas by e-mail . Ideas will be considered at a community-wide meeting in January. Stay tuned for details.
With gratitude,
Lesley
