This is the first edition of this year's News You Can Use web newsletter, which tells Upper School families about upcoming events, key dates, important announcements, and programs of interest.
Upper School parent coffee
Wednesdy, September 8
8 – 9 a.m., Schauff Circle
The PFA invites all Upper School parents and guardians to join together for a back-to-school social hour to ring in the new school year. Upper School head Michael Heath will stop by to say hello. Please join us for coffee and light refreshment. See old friends and get acquainted with folks who are new to our community.
College information night for seniors and their parents
Seniors and parents of seniors, please reserve Wednesday, September 22, to attend a special college information program from 7 to 9 p.m. This is our second annual “case studies” program where you will work in small groups with admissions deans and directors from various colleges to read, review, and make decisions on sample applications. College counselors Blythe Butler and Nancy Donehower look forward to seeing you there. More details to follow.

Are you riding the Catlin Gabel bus this year?
This year’s bus routes, required documents to sign before riding, current billing information, and general information about riding the bus are posted on the School’s web site.
Please note that the required documents must be signed each year and returned to division AAs before students may ride.

Drivers education classes available
The Oregon Driver Education Center offers after-school driving classes from September 20 to November 10. Classes meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Catlin Gabel. For more information, please call Lois Lents at 503-297-4813. All registration and payment is managed by the Oregon Driver Education Center.
Emerging Artists Exhibition
Tuesday, September 7 – Thursday, October 21
Cabell Center Foyer
Come view an exciting show featuring 2010 BFA and MFA graduates from Lewis & Clark, Pacific Northwest College of Art, and Portland State University. The show features a diverse collection of quality work from seven artists: Deanna Bredthauer, Gregory d'Hemecourt, Kathryn Miller, Tuna Poanessa, Miles Sprietsma, Colleen Stokes, Laura Jane Walker, and Stephanie White. Works represent a variety of techniques and mediums in painting, drawing, photography, textiles, wood, metal, and mixed media.
Do your part for art
Come meet the Emerging Artists and learn about the Catlin Gabel Art Exhibition Committee. Help the artists hang their work Tuesday, September 7, starting at 8:30 a.m. We will provide coffee, tea, snacks, conversation, and interesting art to look at!
