•First Grade Parent Orientation Meeting on Thursday.
Dear Parents,
Eagle Study
This week we will launch eagle thinking in all the areas of the classroom during
exploration time each morning. Today we planned a visit with Scott Bowler (Mr. Science in the Lower School), but Scott is ill and we have rescheduled our visit with him for next Monday, the 12th. Scott is an eagle expert and shares information, artifacts, and eagle stories with us. Back in the classrooms each area of the kindergarten is set up to explore eagles in a variety of ways. In the
Project
Corner the children will use natural materials to create eagles. In the
Piazza the children will become eagles themselves, donning capes and eagle headbands while constructing giant nests using the big blocks. Eagle designs will be constructed from pattern blocks and Cuisenaire rods. In the
Art Studio, eagles will be represented using paint, chalk, clay, and paper. In the
Construction Zone we’ll write eagle books, construct eagles from recycled materials, draw Washi and Chuk-Chuk portraits and trace eagle images. We anticipate much excitement as we begin. We’ll also begin a series of eagle stories both fact and fiction.
If you have not done so, please return the "Eagle Memory" form as we have started posting them in the classroom.

Math.jpg)
This is an active week in math. We are using the children’s "100 collections" in a variety of ways from counting to sorting. We are also learning how to count by two’s and identify odd and even numbers. We continue to practice correct numeral formation and recognition of numerals 1 - 100. Practice at home helps!
Have a terrific week!
