Michael Heath and Vicki Roscoe named assistant heads of school
I have asked Michael Heath and Vicki Swartz Roscoe to serve as assistant heads of school in addition to their roles as head of the Upper and Lower Schools respectively. With their increased leadership duties, Vicki and Michael will help me achieve important institutional objectives.
I am grateful to Michael and Vicki for stepping up to additional responsibilities. I have every confidence that they will continue as strong leaders of their divisions while managing growing schoolwide initiatives. And I am pleased that I can dedicate my energies to leading the community; connecting with students, teachers, parents, alumni, grandparents, and donors; and completing the Campaign for Arts and Minds. Together with a strong leadership team, I am dedicated to serving our students and stewarding our exceptional school for future generations.

Our co-curricular programs have grown in just a few short years from seedlings to flowering programs. I have asked Michael to shepherd the long-term direction of robotics, outdoor education, global education, the PLACE urban studies program, the Global Online Academy, and the Knight Family Scholars Program. These programs set Catlin Gabel apart and are vitally important to our ongoing commitment to innovation.

A continually changing and improving curriculum is one sign of a truly progressive school. We haveestablished a system of schoolwide curriculum coordinators by subject area, and they will begin their work this fall. These teacher leaders will focus on curricular scope and sequence as well as best teaching practices. Vicki will oversee this unique process of evaluating what we teach and why we teach it. She will also continue to lead our faculty professional development and teacher evaluation efforts, as she has done for the past several years.
