Notes from the Alumni Office Autumn 08
|Mary Warren Foulk|
This summer, both the alumni office and the alumni board experienced notable transitions. Many of you had the pleasure of meeting Sarah Arzt ’02 during her tenure as alumni and development coordinator. Sarah, a third-generation Catlin Gabel graduate, stepped up and partnered with Brian Jones ’88, immediate past president of the alumni board, to run the alumni program while we were between alumni directors. Sarah’s intelligent grace was an incredible asset to this community while she was on staff, and we look forward to working with her as a volunteer in her new city, San Francisco. We wish her all the best!
I’m pleased to introduce you to the new alumni and development coordinator, Mary Warren Foulk. Mary came on board in late August and immediately made herself an integral part of the fabric of Catlin Gabel. Mary comes to us with a 13-year background in education and education technology. A lifer at Tower Hill School in Wilmington, Delaware, Mary holds an undergraduate degree in English from Princeton University and a master’s in English education from Columbia University Teachers College. She is actively involved in the alumni programs at Princeton and Columbia, and has worked as an instructor, trainer, writer, editor, researcher, fundraiser, project and product manager, and instructional designer. The mother of an 18-month-old, Mary is excited to bring her professional and personal experience to an independent school. Next time you are on campus, feel free to stop by and meet her upstairs in Toad Hall.
|Adam Keefer '98|
At the alumni board level, Caitlin Carlson ’00 retired from the board and Adam Keefer ’98 succeeded Brian Jones ’88 as alumni board president. Caitlin found that her work with MercyCorps, which takes her all over the world, prevented her from being as active a member of the board as she would like. We will miss her spirit and her ideas, but know you will see her on the soccer field from time to time.
Brian, whose role as president coincided with becoming a first-time father, headed the committee responsible for the extraordinary 50th anniversary celebration on May 3. He also planned a fabulous 20th reunion for the class of 1988, a grand way to conclude his presidential term. We are grateful for Brian’s leadership and so pleased that he will stay on as an alumni board member and adviser to his successor, Adam. Since his election in June, Adam has been working with staff, alumni volunteers, and Catlin Gabel trustees to raise the profile of the alumni board and ensure that it meets the needs of alumni and the school. Adam, who is a San Francisco-based investment banker with Sandler O’Neill + Partners, is also charged with representing alumni interests in key school matters as an ex officio member of the board of trustees. I encourage you to get in touch with him at email@example.com with your ideas and concerns, and be sure to let him know if you’d like to become involved with the alumni board or any other aspect of the alumni program. Stay tuned for more from Adam and the board!
