Volleyball is an international game with internation rules that apply across the board. It is a game that could be played virtually anywhere with the same set of core rules. A court can easily be set up using any number of simple materials such as sticks, leaves, string etc. |

Hockey is an Olympic sport. Though popular in the United States, it has been dominated by the Canadians and Russians which gives it an international flavor. Most kids are familiar with hockey because it is shown on TV. I think that addressing the question of why so few people of color play the game professional is a great lead in a discussion question. Are the kids even aware of that, do they care and what is the significance if any? |

Rock climbing has become a world wide activity. It brings people of all backgrounds together and the serious climbers often become connected with other cultures because of the travel required to reach the most challenging mountains. Also, those that progress to another level will find that they will rely on the expertise of the cultures in the area they are climbing for food, lodging, supplies, etc. Finally, most terminology used in climbing for equiment and communication while climbing is pretty universal. |

*This is a huge piece of a successful multicultural part in PE. Teaching the kids another part of a culture, the games or activites that are important to them, why, history etc. This creates a well rounded understanding of the activity side of other cultures and often leads us to understanding our surrounding environments. |

Baseball has a huge significance in our society. Jackie Robinson's name in the black culture is often compared in significance with MLK. Roberto Clemente's name has the same impact in the hispanic culture. In today's game, people like Ichiro and Hideo Matsue carry an enormous following from the asian culture. Baseball has brought recognition to each of these culture in the United States through Baseball. Baseball carries the highest percentage of cross-cultural players of any sport in the United States and the media has made sure we notice. Our National Pastime has started to expand by playing games in Japan, Puerto Rico, Mexico and beyond each year. The expansion of where the game is played continues to grow as will the people from other cultures playing the game. |

The natural multicultural aspect of Croquet is that it originated in Europe. The exact source is up for debate. It is believed that it originated from a similar French game. The game shitfted into Ireland and England in the 1850's. |

Frisbee golf is a game that could be implemented anywhere and the equipment you use could very enormously. It is something that would be easy to setup in any type of environment if you have the imagination to do so. The golf scoring system is common throughout the world, but better yet, counting to 10 is pretty common in most cultures which gives you an easy method of keeping score if desired. |
