What is the Catlin Gabel Annual Fund? Where is my money going?

The Annual Fund supports the school’s operating budget with annual, unrestricted gifts that help fund our programs, students, and teachers. Some examples of the essentials provided by the Annual Fund are:

* Faculty salaries
* Financial aid
* Arts
* Outdoor ed
* Robotics
* Professional development for teachers
* Athletics and physical education
* Global ed
* Facilities maintenance

The Annual Fund provides 7% of Catlin Gabel's operating budget.

Why Give? Doesn’t Tution Cover Everything?

Because we are a not for profit school, tuition and fees only cover 85% of the school's operating budget. The remaining 15% is funded by gifts to the Annual Fund, auction, and endowment investment income.

Participation Completes the Annual Fund

Twenty percent of the Annual Fund is made up of participation gifts. Without these gifts the school would not reach its budgeted operating goal. In addition, when the school seeks sponsorship, matching gifts, and grants from corporations and foundations, they often review our participation percentages which helps them choose the level at which they will support Catlin Gabel. In essense, participation gifts help secure additional and major gifts for Catlin Gabel. The goal for 2009-10 is 20% participation from alumni and 100% participation from parents.

For the 2009-10 school year, Catlin Gabel School is counting on an Annual Fund income of $890,000 in unrestricted donations. An Annual Fund Leadership committee composed of parents, alumni, faculty, and staff is helping us pursue this goal.
