US play: Picasso in the Back Seat
Dmae Roberts' play Picasso in the Back Seat won an Oregon Book Award a Portland Drama Award. The play was originaly produced in 1996 at Artists Repertory Theatre. The major theme is about the value of art. Much of Roberts' work focuses on cross-cultural issues.
Dmae Roberts is a Peabody award-winning radio artist/writer whose work often airs on NPR. Her Peabody award-winning documentary Mei Mei, a Daughter's Song is a harrowing account of her mother's childhood in Taiwan. Her Peabody-winning eight-hour Crossing East is the first Asian American history series on public radio. She received the Asian American Journalists Association’s Civil Rights and Social Justice award, as well as a USA Rockefeller Fellowship. Roberts writes for the Asian Reporter and hosts Stage & Studio on KBOO FM and KZME FM.
