*General overview of the 21 Hispanic countries.
*General parts of speech.
*Regular and irregular verbs in the present and past tenses.
*Agreement of gender and number.
*Vocabulary and idiomatic expressions.

Skills and Processes: 

*To develop a cultural awareness through the study of history, geography, and the arts.
*To communicate minimally with learned material and ask simple questions.
*To understand simple utterances, simple questions and commands.

Assessment: 

*Daily vocabulary quizzes (10 words).
*Bi-weekly unit tests including short paragraph writing.
*End of the term oral proficiency interviews and role playing.
