Visual Arts rotaion 1 (8)
This art rotation’s focus is Art History. The rotation has four components: researching an artist, creating a piece of art work inspired by an artist or a period of art, creating a 12” x 12” square as part of a mural design problem and creating an autobiographical self portrait. In the first few days students utilized research from books web sites of museums and those of individual artists. Students discovered details about the artists, where they lived, how they worked, and the events that influenced their artwork. The pieces of artwork students created in the style of their artist were a creative challenge. The problem solving and development of new techniques was an important focus in this rotation. The mural square was a more ambiguous challenge because it only had two requirements. They had to work in the style of their artist, and they had to incorporate a random meandering line. The self-portrait can seem like an equally ambiguous challenge because students incorporate elements of their life. This portrait does not rely on representational images but reflects values and interests.
