Welcome to 4th Grade Mandarin Chinese Class  四年级中文欢迎你!

We've reviewed colors, clothing, and money. Also, we've learned about seasons & weather conditions so our children can describe what cloth people wear in each season or under different weather conditions. Currently we're reviewing daily routines and learning personal hobbies. Our children get to design the schedule of a celebrity of their own choice.

A big step up in terms of the language skill we try to build is reading (character recognition), and our 4th graders just amazed me with their unlimited imagination. We are learning about the places in a community/town, so knowing how to read the street signs of these places is a practical skill. So our children combine their brains together to help each other "read" these Chinese characters of "places in a town".

In Spring time, we're learning how to invite friends to do some leisure activities together. So our Chinese students are combining the time, places, and activities to ask each other if they're free to do things together. After the interview, the students will make their schedule for the "ideal week" into a story book.

FAQ:

Q: What is the class schedule?

A: We meet on Mondays, Tuesdays & Fridays (8:25 ~ 9:10 or 9:10 ~ 9:50). You're welcomed to stop by and learn a few Chinese with us!

Q: Are our 4th graders learning how to "write" in Chinese characters?

A: Yes and No! This is the first year that our students will be introduced to "typing" in Chinese using Pinyin. This reinforces the tone accuracy and avoid messy handwriting, especially in Chinese. Students will have to create project using supportive software to type out Chinese sentences to express their ideas.
