Welcome to 2nd Grade Mandarin Chinese Class 二年级中文欢迎你！
We've covered age, and we'll continue the number system up to 31 so that our children will be able to state dates/birthdate. All the 2nd graders know how to sing the Chinese version of "head, shoulders, knees, and toes", so we have combined animals & body parts to create "alien creatures". in the past two weeks, we're learning "classroom items" and reviewing numbers by counting. The next topic we'll be learning is clothing, and we'll be describing cloth with colors and play games for listening comprehension.
In the second half of the year, we've learned words in the nature (ie. sun, moon, star, flower, tree, grass, rainbow, stone, mountain, river, etc.) and some adjectives that describe opposites. Therefore to combine what we've learned and describe natures and people, we're creating phrases by combining the adjectives and the nouns (from the nature or people). Afterwards, we played some guessing games like "Guess Who I Am" & "Detective" by asking for clues from the class so that the kids converse with each other forming Q & A dialogues.
We also just started a review unit by learning about Chinese nursery rhymes, which include the topics of "colors", "animals", "numbers", "seasons", "body parts", and "natures".

Q: What is the class schedule?
A: We meet on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays (12:15 ~ 12:55 or 12:55 ~ 1:35). You're welcomed to stop by and learn a few Chinese with us!
Q: What are some of the curriculum goals of second year of Chinese?
A: Our goals are to continue learning to identify basic vocabulary of various topics and familiarize with the different tones of Chinese language. Pinyin is NOT formally introduced to our students in second grade to avoid interference of their English phonics.
Q: How can I provide supplemental material to reinforce my children's Chinese learning?
A: You may want to use the "useful resources link" to access material found/created to support their learning at home.
I helped my team get the first point by saying the right answer of classroom supplies we're learning.
