Splitting Courage
by Emily Rodriguez
January 11, 2010

New life
New times
New houses
New same

I want the

Old sayings
Old parents
Old me
Old life

I can’t

Face the facts
Face the lies
Face the feelings
Face the cries

I need

My mom and
My dad and
My loving family back
My tears I fell asleep on

I cry

From the separation
From the split that changed my life
From the mom with someone new
From the dad who had to choose

We wonder

My brother and I
Why the wind
Rolled around to us
Why mom and dad separated

Why they divorced
And left us alone
In the morning
During our lives
During the time that we split between parents

Now
That half of my life is gone
