Courage Is
by Lauren Kinnucan
December 2, 2009

    Courage is. . .
Seeing the light at the end of the tunnel
For how can we be sure that the light is not a raging forest fire?
We can't
we have to go to the end of the tunnel to
find out
    Courage is . . .
Finding out if the grass is really greener on the other side
We can't be sure that the grass isn't a
sea of ivy green paint
In order to find out
we must visit the other side
    Courage is . . .
Learning the story behind the picture
because we can't be positive
that it is a happy tale
The picture of the smiling child may be
a sad memoir of her death
For us to know,
we must read the story
    Having courage must mean . . .
That we know that everything is not what it seems
Who knows what we may discover
when we venture further
and fulfill our curiosity of the
unknown
It way be something wondrous
that will catapult us forward
or something that will plunge us further
into the vast, exciting darkness of the
undiscovered
