Memories
by Hayle Meyerhoff
March 29, 2010

Memories are clouding my mind
Of the lives that I saw taken
Of the people, both mean and kind
And the territory forsaken.
I want to erase all those thoughts
Like spelling words on a chalkboard
Turn them into miniature dots
To never ever be restored.
But even if I did
The shadow would stick around
Of those treacherous days I hid
Not making a single sound.
The people always turned to me
Because I was the only key
But I was so afraid to see
That was who I had to be.
