Football with 5th Graders
Oh man, our kids are courageous! Last week, we noticed a number of 1st graders intently watching the older kids play football during recess. Many of the kids expressed interest in playing and a heart debate started about who might be the best teachers. They decided on the 5th graders ("They're the oldest kids so they have the most experience"), so we wrote the 5th graders a letter asking if they might be willing to give up some of their recess time to teach us how to play football and they responded with a hearty "YES!" Our elders decided we needed to work on skills first before joining a scrimmage (thank goodness!), so they coached us on passing, catching, running and even throwing spirals!
