Class Events
Birthdays: We celebrate children’s birthdays by the month with a low-key end of the day song. During the last week of the month we will have a day when we will sing to all children with a birthday that month. Summer birthdays will have a special week. The past few years we have established a tradition of having birthday children donating change to our donation bottle. At the end of the year we donate the money to a worthy cause connected to our studies.
Parties: We have four planned parties for the year: Harvest Time, Winter Holidays, Valentine’s and the end of the year. Notices will be sent home regarding details on these parties. Parents will be asked to help coordinate these events and volunteer.
Field Trips: We are in the process of planning a number of field trips around Oregon water and river habitats. We hope to venture to the source of Portland water, rivers around Portland, and an ocean museum trip. Also we plan to go to a farm for gleaning and harvest fun. On a number of trips parent volunteers will be asked to accompany us. Our major trip of the year is three days and two nights at Camp B’nai B’rith by the Oregon Coast. Starting in January, we take part in service trips to the Oregon Food Bank.
Grandparents and Special Friends Day: In November grandparents and friends will be invited to spend a morning at the school.
Spring Festival: In the spring third graders will have the opportunity to perform songs and dances in the Barn.
Portfolio Night: In the Spring families are invited to view a selection of schoolwork by their children and see the school year through the eyes of the child.
Egg Drop: In the spring, families are invited to view the dropping of third grade designed protective coverings for eggs.
Other Events: Other school-wide special events will receive advance notice to allow for family participation. Check the school newsletter, The Crier, for events and dates.
