Trista + Ryan 4EVR <3

I'm not exactly sure how we got on this topic but all I know is that it ended up with Chris and me on the Bachelorette 2010 website rating the headshot and bio of each bachelor vying for Ali's love. I gave him the rundown of who I liked and disliked based on last nights premiere and who, despite not looking so hot in their headshot, was a winner on TV (don't worry Kasey from Fresno, I gotchyo back). After making fun of the tag line "Ali Fedotowsky begins her quest to find true love" I defended that Trista, the second season Bachelorette, did indeed find true love with Ryan Sutter. I made him watch a Trista/Ryan youtube montage of their life together. He was thoroughly impressed with how much I knew about their lives.

I didn't blog yesterday but the erlenmeyer flask vs. beaker experiment worked. There was absolutely no ethanol left in the beaker but a lot left in the erlenmeyer flask.

On to Veronica's questions...

What statistical test is behind that asterisk above the higher blue bar? The asterisk signifies a 1 way ANOVA with a Tukey post-hoc test.

Headmounts were in place when you showed up, right? Or did you get to see that surgery? Yes, I did not see them put onto the mice.

Can you take this data and spin it into numbers that relate to humans? In human terms, how many drinks are these mice having per day? What's their blood alcohol level? Would they get arrested if pulled over and given a Breathalyzer test? The blood samples were not taken post drinking so there are no BEC values for post drinking. Chris estimated that their blood alcohol levels would be at or slightly above the legal driving limit. Here's how many drinks the mice are having per day in human terms. For a 140 lb person, they would be drinking 5 L of beer OR 1.7 bottles of wine (8.5 glasses) OR 10 shots of 80 proof vodka.

Also I would just like to point out that in the May 31st edition of TIME on p. 45 on the first page of the Life section I was pleased to come across an article titled "Sweet (Hangover) Relief. Coconut water has more electrolytes than Gatorade. It's also low-calorie and uber-trendy." PROOF THAT COCO H20 ROCKS!!!!! I would recommend this article for any naysayers.

I recommend the pita chips at OHSU Farmer's Market!

I just showed Conor Carlton the photo of the mouse with the headmount. He thought it was not as scary as taking the math test he is now working on!
Thanks for a great visit the other day. Veronica and I really enjoyed ourselves, with the exception of the hunt for a parking space. We went to the Farmer's Market on the way home too!

Holy cow, that's a lot of drinking!

No wonder their little brains are reeling....!
Nichole is going to be so excited about this coconut news...I'm still not sold on mere electrolytes being the quick fix for avoiding a hangover, but I'll admit that Chris is certainly the authority here!
