Oh, the Perks of Interning

I am WAY too tired to blog right now. But I haven't yet this week. Ugh. I'll flesh this out tomorrow, or something.

But, in brief: Monday and Tuesday I worked at the office, dutifully making lists, printing labels, and putting broken tents out of their misery.

Today was market day! I wasn't there for set-up, but I arrived midway through the market and stayed for take-down for the first time. Take-down doesn't take nearly as long as set-up, but it does involve collecting garbage, which, as you might imagine, smells less than lovely.

Additionally, immediately upon arriving at the market, I made a purchase of two tacos from a vendor called Grande Foods: One pastor (pork) and one lengua (beef tongue). Both delighted my senses. The lengua reminded me of an exceptionally tender, fatty steak. I have to admit, though, that after much consideration, I preferred the pork. But still, these were really good tacos. I also had a slice of blueberry pie, which made me very happy, because pie always makes me very happy. And THEN I bought some of the best hummus I have ever eaten (they had samples, I sampled, it was so good I plopped down my $3 right there and demanded a tub), and what goes with hummus but pita bread, amirite? So I sidle over to the resident bread vender, one "Big Foot Bread," and make a purchase of some pita and go on my way. Then, maybe an hour later, the vender approaches me with a worried look on his face and a dollar waving in his hand with all the gravity of a bullfighter's flag, and he asks me, "Are you a volunteer?" I was confused enough by his face and the flying dollar that all I managed to reply was "Huh?" at first, and then, after some consideration, said, "Well, I'm an intern with Adelante Mujeres," and gestured toward the info booth. "If you're with the market, you get a dollar off!" Mr. Big Foot Bread exclaimed, his frown at this point becoming a smile, which made me feel more at ease.

GOD I LOVE MY JOB, even if I do have to take out the garbage. Farmers markets just attract such awesome people. What can I say?

And, before you take me for a total glutton, I also bought some parsley for my herb garden.

And then, because I am a total glutton, I have to point out that I got a Spella cappuccino this morning, which obviously is the entire explanation for why this day turned out so well, weather (eventually) and all.

Great post

I love the vision of the man with the dollar. Serendipity can truly make one's day. Pie doesn't hurt either. Tacos de Lengua--that's adventurous! On to Tacos de Cabeza!
