I have always been very supportive of the general concept of public transportation, however in reality usually avoid it. Considering I have no set time to get to school I decided that the time had come to stop being a hypocrite, so at 9:30 made my way down to the thurman stop for bus 15. Just as I reached the stop the bus pulled up, giving me the false impression that today was going to be a good day. Everything went swimmingly until I realized that the bus was going the wrong way down Burnside. I ended up getting off and having to wait for about 40 minutes, smoking the equivalent of about 5 cigarettes in second hand smoke, and getting some first hand experience with the contingent working hard to "keep portland weird". By the time I got to Catlin, one hour and one chiwawa in a stroller sighting later, I was completely exhausted. I spent the morning trimming the pots that I made yesterday and throwing a pitcher, lids, and spouts. In the afternoon I decided to try mixing my own glazes. What that really means is that I spent the afternoon crawling around in dusty shelves of chemicals (many of which have skull and cross bones on the labels) looking for ingredients I had never heard of. Eventually I found what I needed to make a matt ash glaze and mixed it up. I am really excited because I used ash that I collected on the Owyhee river over spring break. I also met a graduate student from Pacific University who worked with the woman who I am meeting with this friday. Tomorrow I am hoping to find the other ingredients and make a few more glazes so that I can test them. I may also throw some more things before going to the museum of contemporary art in the afternoon. Below are pictures of some of the things I threw yesterday!
